Do Hard Things

Study diligently today or fail your classes later.

Brush (and floss) your teeth today or “enjoy” extensive dental work later.

Pursue regularly physical activity today or experience poor health and multiple doctors later.

Repair or replace your leaking roof today or face extensive interior repairs and replacements later.

Hire a marriage counselor today or a divorce attorney later.

Discipline your children well today or they will falter on their own as they age out of your house later.

Restrict your lifestyle today to build your retirement savings today or be forced to experience a restricted lifestyle in retirement as you live of the “riches of social security” later.

Paraphrased, an old expression states that an ounce of prevention today is worth far more than a pound of cure later.  Unfortunately, many of us – myself included –don’t like, are daunted by, or are afraid of what the “ounce of prevention” represents or costs.  What we fail to recognize, though, is that by ignoring what is hard today, we will face something significantly harder tomorrow.  In fact, there are many instances where the “pound of cure” represents abject failure or heartache later.

Questions to Ponder

  • What are your five fears or problems that you have today that are represented by the “pound of cure”?

  • What are the five actions that you need to take daily to ensure you are actively pursuing an “ounce of prevention” now?

  • Who do you know that can or will provide you with the right amount of accountability to follow through with your“preventative maintenance” activities?

To doing hard things in full measure!
